COE can't create New Ontology map

Post by gosvalds » Wed Apr 30, 2014 9:33 pm

This is documentation of problem reported on the Troubleshooting IHMC Cmap Tools Forum since this forum was created to report COE issues:

CONFIGURATION: COE V 5.0.04, windows 7, 16GB ram, CMap tool was removed before install of COE.
PROBLEM: the drop down menu items under File is grayed out: New Ontology..., New Discussion Thread..., New Soup...,
Want to create New Ontology but won't allow?

RESPONSE: These three items are bugs that we have on our list.
However, if you want to create a new ontology, simply create a new cmap, and start constructing your ontology using templates that you can download here: http://www.ihmc.us/groups/coe/wiki/dd9f ... plates.zip

There are some slightly out of date instructions here:http://www.ihmc.us/groups/coe/wiki/dd9f ... ctions.pdf
Ignore the part about the IHMC Public Ontologies computer, as the templates you need are in the zip file previously mentioned.
Tom

WORK AROUND: download templates, unzip, copy to My Cmaps, close and restart COE (otherwise templates don't show up in templates area, if COE was running while you moved the templates)
select File, New Cmap, drag template items to work area to build ontologies.

Just a note, you shouldn't have to restart COE if you drag and drop the "templates" folder into your "My Cmaps" window in COE. You will have to close and reopen any Cmap editor windows you have open, though.
