Re: CmapTools won't run at all on Mac OS X 10.4.1

Post by LRCadvisor »

I am using MAC OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger) and have happily used CMAP for a few years. A couple of days ago, it stopped loading when I clicked on CMAPtools.app, and I have since dowloaded 5.03 only to find that this will not properly execute either.

CMAP shows in the window bar, but no other headings (file, view, etc. no visible).

I have tried opening saved CMAPs, but the Mac reports thta there is no application associated with these and the program is greyed out.

Ideas?

Installation on Mac OS X 10.4.1 fails with no messaging

Post by LRCadvisor »

Further to my posts explaining the situation under "CMPA won't eecute" and "won't run at all" threads, I have tried to reinstall the 4.18 and the 5.03 and am writing to update with new information. The zip files open and an icon labelled "install.app" (4.18) appears. Double-clicking to activate results in the application name displayed in the window bar, but no other visible signs of the application install. Simiarly, for version 5.03, double clicking on the siped file results in display of an icon flabelled "CMAPtoolsv5.03.app". Double-clicking brings the same result. There is no access to existing CMAPs and no function available.

Clicking on existing CMAPS results in a message that no application is attached to the document type, which suggests that the stall occurs early in installation with the OS unable to find any aspect of CMAP on the system.

I'm running MAC OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger) with 18 gigabytes of free space on a Macbook Pro, 17" screen for a delicious display of my much missed conceptual map for the book I'm writing ;-)

Thanks for ay ideas on what I may need to do to regain functionality.

Greetings, Rodrigo.

I have done as suggested and the installation proceeds to the point of the application name box appearing (blank, without the name) in the middle of my screen. Thanks for you help - there seems to be a missing semi-colon...could that be the issues?

Mysterious success....today I tried again and simply double clicking on the icon did the trick. I don't know whether restarting my Mac may have had something to do with this success, but glad for the result regardless!

Thanks for efforts to create this great tool.

@LRCadvisor:

I'm glad you are now able to use CmapTools. Unfortunately we were not able to reproduce the problem and then we won't probably know what happened to you.

Did you run the Mac OS's update utility lately?
