CmapTools on Ubuntu using Beryl/Compiz shows a blank window

Post by zabelle_motte »

There is a problem while using CMapTools on Ubuntu (9.04 at least).
The JRE does not work out of the box.
It seems there is a problem with the 3D graphic environment.

Some sites suggest to remove the jre folder in the install directory.
This is a solution except for those that want to use a CMapServer for collaborative edition.
In that case, it is not possible to create discussion threads.
While trying to create a discussion thread, no window opens but only a small green vertical line appears.

Other sites suggest there is a conflict with Compiz or Beryl, the 3D graphic environments.
The application actually works well while stopping 3D environment.

So, for the moment, I suggest Ubuntu users to desactivate 3D environment while using CMapTools.
This may be done as follows :
System - Preferences - Appearence - "Visual Effects" tab - check "None"

Thanks to CMaptools developpers to maintain valid informations on the Ubuntu Documentation Page of CMapTools :
http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/cmap

And thanks a lot for this funny and efficient application ...

Yes, there is a conflict, but you don't need to stop the 3D environment. There is a parameter that needs to be added to the Linux's user profile in order to allow CmapTools and Compiz/Beryl to run simultaneously.

Please follow the instructions contained at CmapTools on Linux presents a blank (grey) cmap window

Thanks a lot for your answer, everything works well now, even with Compiz activated.
Apologies for cross-posting (I didn't find the above post) ...
