Hi,

The CmapTools client asks for the userid+password when first launched, which are used by default as the userid+password for the Administrator of a folder created on a CmapServer. But its the userid+password stored in the folder itself (or the userid used to authenticate with an LDAP server) that are important and worth retrieving. When you try to open a folder in a CmapServer, the client sends the default userid+password, plus any other userid+passwords you may have supplied when opening folders or accessing Cmaps previously, to the CmapServer for authentication. These are compared with the userid+passwords on the folder to determine access privileges.

So, when you refer to recovering the userid+password, what is important is recovering the userid+password for a particular folder in a CmapServer. Its at this point, when accessing a folder, that the CmapServer provides the option to send an email to the user with the userid+password. Once these are retrieved, then you can easily go and change the defaults in the CmapTools client through the Preferences menu option. The email address used is the email address you provided as your default in your preferences in the client (together with the userid+password).

Now, whether the CmapServer is able to send and email or not depends to a large extent on whether the CmapServer is well configured or not. The configuration must include the information needed for it to authenticate with a mail server and send email.

If you are trying to retrieve your userid+password for a folder stored in one of IHMC's CmapServers (e.g. one of the IHMC Public Cmaps, or the Cmappers or LiveMappers CmapServers) the email should work. If it didn't, please post a message indicating the server and the folder name and we'll look into it.

Stephanie Patil
current username is sp4public
current email is sp4public@comcast.net

Formerly (3 years ago?) created cmaps on IHMC Public CMAPS 2 spatil_InstructionalTechnology

Several computers later, I need to regain access to IHMC Public CMAPS 2 spatil_InstructionalTechnology
I no longer remember the password.
The username may be: sap, sp4sure, sp4public, or ?
The email address was probably sp4sure@comcast.net or sp4public@comcast.net.

I have switched from PC to Mac OS X 10.5.8
4 GB RAM

Thank you, Stephanie
