Had problems with importing cmaps from on older XP

Post by AP »

CmapTools 6.0101 on Windows 10 complained about those directories, whose names start with dot ( usually .cmapthumbnails). As a result, I was unable to import from my old XP machine

I tried (finally succeeded) to import a bunch of cmaps from a backup drive (from Windows XP). My back up settings were such, that I was also backing up the dot-directories. CmapTools could not import the dot-directories, so I initally could not import nothing.

So I made a program to delete those dot-directories, but then I had a new problem with the Thumbs.db-files (they have system and hidden flags). Possibly I had browsed the directories with Windows Explorer, so those were created.

Really annoying problems. I am not sure if I would call this a bug on CmapTools, this was heavily a problem made by myself.

Yes, the period at the beginning of the file can cause problems. Next time, a suggestions: (a) Stop CmapTools, (b) create a folder under My Cmaps and copy the backup folder into that folder, and then (c) restart CmapTools. This is actually a better way as the project.idx files, where the resource-ids are stored for all resources, would be indexed correctly. The thumbnail files will just show as resources in the Views that can be deleted.
