Yes, I tried installing both versions. I experienced the same problem with both of them.

Its not clear to me whether you go through all the settings in the installer (e.g. selecting Typical vs Advanced Configuration) and at the end it fails, or it even fails to present the dialogue boxes.

The setup wizard indicates that the installation process gets to 100%, a second or two later, it opens some type of window. This window shows Cmap starting up, however, it suddenly disappears and the program does nothing else. As I explained in one of my previous comments, I ran a thorough search of the hard drive looking for any signs of Cmap and it was nowhere to be found --no folder, no files; nothing whatsoever. Furthermore, every time I tried installing Cmap I just chose to keep the default settings.

If it's OK with you, I'd be glad to simply install and older version of the program. Would you be able/willing to provide me with a link to download it? I honestly just want to start creating my concept maps.

ftp://ftp.ihmc.us/DownloadCmapTools/Cma ... 0Releases/

has previous releases. But the installer is basically the same.

Hi Admin,

As far as using Cmap, I'm actually a fairly old user. My computer is somewhat old too --it' pushing nearly 4 years- and I know I had Cmap installed some time prior to formatting it four or five months ago. Therefore, I figured that if I tried installing WinCmapTools_v4.18_06-09-08 --the oldest version in the ftp server- I just couldn't go wrong. It turns out this time around the wizard couldn't even go all the way through. I got Windows' error 5, which I looked up in Windows' "glossary of errors" (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... s.85).aspx) and it stands for "ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED." The error message also read, "...while launching Java VM." I did a little research and I found this page http://www.thewindowsclub.com/access-is ... on-windows. I went through all the scenarios listed in there --changing User Account Control's settings, running the installer as Administrator, the works- and nothing worked for me. In fact, when I followed Scenario 5's instructions I couldn't get Windows to allow me to alter the "Temp" folder's permissions so as to "Take Ownership." I'm at a loss here. It's looking like I won't be able to install Cmap after all.

Can you try to install into an USB drive? Just to see if its a permissions issue.

I've never done anything like that. Wouldn't I need a special version of the installer? I mean, one that installs a portable-type app?

No, just select the USB drive as the destination. It should make the installation anyway. That way you can be sure that its not a permissions problem. For the installer its just another drive. Select the Advanced Configuration option.

Actually, the installer doesn't even get to open the wizard --I know, this sort of contradicts some of my previous statements. Basically, the sequence of events goes as follows:

(1) Rick-click on the .exe file
(2) Choose Run as Admin

At this point one of two things may happen:

(3.a) The installer goes all the way through 100% but fails to open the wizard
(3.b) The installer doesn't even get to start the process that should open the wizard.

(4) Windows displays the Error 5 message I described earlier.

All four steps listed above apply to both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Therefore, I don't even get to choose a drive to install the program on --that would be one of the wizard's options.

The reason why I had said the program would go through the entire installation process only to fail to open the actual application is because that was the original issue. Now, it's not even opening the wizard altogether. Hopefully all of this makes sense.
