IHMC Public CmapServers switch to using port 443

Post by acanas »

The IHMC Public CmapServers (IHMC Public Cmaps, IHMC Public Cmaps (2), IHMC Public Cmaps (3), Cmappers, etc.) have been reconfigured to use port 443 instead of port 4447 for communication between the CmapTools client and the CmapServer. For years we have had problems with organizations' firewalls blocking port 4447 and users having to ask for the port to be opened. Port 443, being the default port for secure https communication, is usually open in all organizations. So we have switched the configuration to use port 443.

If you are using the latest version of CmapTools, the program will receive from the Directory of Places the change in configuration and will start using port 443 automatically. For users with an old version of CmapTools, or having port 4447 open and port 443 closed, we are forwarding automatically port 4447 to port 443. You may want to check whether your organization's firewall is blocking port 443.

Users with port 443 and port 447 blocked in their computer or their organization's firewall will experience a slower service through port 80 using http.
