IHMC public CmapServers now use SSL

Post by cmapadmin »

We've updated the public CmapServers at IHMC (Public Cmaps, Public Cmaps (2), Public Cmaps (3), Sample Knowledge Models, Cmappers, Space Exploration and Internal) to use SSL. The default web access will now be https:// instead of http://, but http:// should continue working.

To make the upgrade we needed to change the default ports used for communication with CmapTools clients. The new defaults are port 8080 for CmapTools communication and port 443 for web access. Port 4447, the original CmapTools port, is being forwarded to port 8080. The CmapServers automatically register the new ports with the DOP (Directory of Places) so the CmapTools clients should continue to work without any issues. However, if your computer is behind a firewall, you may want to make sure that ports 8080 and 443 are open.

These changes don't affect the Cmap Cloud, which has been using SSL for quite a while.
