The ??? between concepts are the linking phrases, key to concept maps. Maps without linking phrases are not proper concept maps.
But, if you don't want them, press the Shift key when linking concepts, The linking phrase field will not show.

To remove them, you can click the origin concept, drag the arrows towards the other concept,Wordle Unlimited and type the relationship in the white box that appears on the line.

In Cmap Tools, the "???" symbols are used to represent a linking phrase between two concepts on a concept map. To remove the "???" symbols, you need to either delete the linking phrase entirely or replace it with a different phrase or word.
